Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid season, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet saved four early-game break points in a close third set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
